How does the RC-180-12 work?

Door Closed — Secure

When the door is closed, the magnet is positioned directly
opposite the recessed reed contact.

The magnetic field keeps the contact in its normal secure state,
allowing the connected security system to recognise that the
door is closed.

Because both components are recessed into the door and frame,
the sensor remains discreet after installation.

Door Open — Contact Activated

When the door opens, the magnet moves away from the recessed
reed contact.

Once the magnet moves outside the operating range, the contact
changes state.

The connected alarm or security panel can then detect that the
door has been opened and respond according to the system
configuration.

Typical Installation

Recessed Door Installation

The RC-180-12 is designed to be recessed into a steel door and
door frame.

The reed contact is installed in the door frame while the magnet
is installed directly opposite it in the door.

When the door closes, both components align with each other,
allowing the contact to monitor the door position.

The cable from the reed contact is routed through the frame and
connected to the security or alarm panel.

How does the RC-B180-12 work?

Door Closed — Secure

The RC-B180-12 is installed opposite its matching magnet so that
both components align when the door is closed.

The recessed design allows the contact and magnet to remain
largely concealed within the door and frame.

The RC-B180-12 is the biased version within the RC-180 Series.

Door Open — Contact Changes State

When the door opens, the magnet moves away from the recessed
contact.

This allows the connected security system to monitor the change
in door position.
